The Lenasia SAPS achieved success yesterday afternoon when five suspects were arrested in connection with a business robbery in Anchorville, Lenasia’s industrialised region.
Lenasia SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Bafana Ndimande explained: “Police followed information which led to the arrest of five adult African males aged between 27 and 36-years-old for business robbery.
“An Indian male alleged that he was officially on duty at a business on Lawley Road, Anchorville (Lenasia) when an unknown African male entered and pointed a firearm at him. Another unknown male stormed in and forced the Indian male to lie on the floor. The worker’s colleagues ran out of the store and he then also stood up, and ran away. He thereafter spotted the males driving away in a Gold Toyota Corolla with unknown registration number. He later noticed that cash, to an undisclosed amount of money, was taken and a Red BMW motor vehicle was stolen.”
Sergeant Ndimande continued: “Police officers were informed about what happened and they gave chase to the described Toyota Corolla. The officers managed to stop the motor vehicle on Hydrangea Avenue, Lenasia Extension 2 and apprehended five males. The officers searched the vehicle and found three firearms. The Red BMW was later found abandoned and recovered in Lenasia Extension 10.
“The firearms and a Toyota Corolla were seized and handed in as exhibits. The males were detained at Lenasia SAPS cells and will appear shortly at Protea Magistrates Court.
“We appeal to the community to be vigilant at all times and report any criminal activities to the SAPS National Crime Stop line at 08600 10111 or Lenasia Police Station at (011) 213-6045/6 or alternatively at (011) 213-6057 or free from the cellphone at 112 for further police assistance.”
