5-year-old girl dies in Albatross Street fire

A 5-year-old sadly passed on during a fire at her home on Albatross Street, Ext. 1, Lenasia on 25th November 2019, while a 12-year-old boy was seriously injured. 
Community members, medics of Saaberie Chishty Ambulance, Pulsate Ambulance, ER24, CPF members, tow truckers, security companies and many others risked their lives to help the three victims. A community member named Fadeel did his utmost to save the child but unfortunately she passed on due to severe smoke inhalation. Speaking to the Lenasia Times, Fadeel explained that he asked community members to wet him fully with a hosepipe and a wet a t-shirt to wrap around his face. Fadeel went up, broke the window, went in and grabbed the 5-year-old but sadly she passed on due to smoke inhalation. The domestic worker who was also at the home was not injured. Firefighters and community members worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire. 
It is alleged the fire engine arrived over an hour later to the scene.
Lenasia Times contacted City of Joburg spokesperson but was not able to solicit a statement at the time of print.
According to Lenasia SAPS spokesperson Capt. Hector Netshivhodza: “The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage and the police are investigating a case of inquest to determine the cause of death.”
