Pastor Randy Christian
It is the time of year when the festive season gives way to some much needed and well-deserved relaxation, fun and happiness. When both children and adults look forward to the holidays, Christmas treats and gifts. The summertime atmosphere can be felt in the air and provides a delightful ambience of joy – its Christmas!
However, there are many underprivileged families within our community that cannot enjoy this Christmas season. Children coming from disadvantaged circumstances that may not know what it is like to experience the spirit of giving during Christmas time. The spirit of giving is a tradition that is based on the biblical truth that God gave the greatest gift of all when he demonstrated his love for the world by giving Jesus as an atonement for sin and providing eternal life for everyone who believes.
At El Shammah (Hebrew for “God is there”) Church we have celebrated our 25-year anniversary which signifies twenty-five years of demonstrating Gods love for all humanity by doing our part in taking care of the community in Lenasia and preaching the simple and yet profound message of Jesus that has the power to change lives. Our 2019 (twenty-five year) anniversary was marked with the sight of joy and sound of laughter in our church yard as we fed and entertained a little more than 320 children in our Secret-Santa Christmas event. In the Secret-Santa event, the church puts together a Christmas box for each child attending; comprising of a toy, a clothing item and treats. The Christmas-box passes on an encouraging message to our children showing them that they come from a community of unity and care, and more importantly, that they are loved and cherished by God. Children enjoyed a day of entertainment at the El Shammah Church premises which included two jumping castles, Sparkles the clown, good food, snacks and a gift-giving ceremony. Children then left to go back to their homes feeling blessed by the efforts of our church staff and community helpers to put a smile on their faces.
‘Tis the season for relaxation, family vacations, treats, gifts and acknowledging the great gift of life and what it means to be a part of humanity, indeed ‘tis the season with a reason – its Christmas!
Please join us for our Christmas Service 25th December @8am (7872 Apollo Street, Ext. 9, Lenasia).
