On Saturday, 19th October 2019, Rose Lenasia Parkrun celebrated its 1st birthday and over 240 participants joined in the celebrations which turned out to be one massive celebration.
Rose Lenasia Parkrun was launched in Lenasia by Razia and Imtiaz Sattar on 20th October 2018 and since its inception 1 year ago Lenasia Rose Parkrun has grown in leaps and bounds, with significant increase in participants and volunteers.
Just before the start of Lenasia Rose Parkrun’s 53rd run, participants joined in the chorus singing Happy Birthday on this momentous occasion. Balloons, Holi powder and birthday cards adorned the pathway at the event and there was food galore as participants and volunteers tucked into the variety of snacks all catered for by the volunteers through generous donations from sponsors.
It was truly an occasion worth celebrating as the Parkrun held every Saturday at Rose Park in Lenasia Ext. 5 has become a firm favourite with young and old alike and throughout the year whether it has been extreme hot summer days or bitter cold winter days, volunteers have been out as early as 6:30am ensuring every week’s parkrun is a success.
However, volunteers as well as some participants have not limited their activities to the Parkrun but have actively been involved in maintaining not only Rose Park but the adjacent undeveloped park as well, which has been a huge task as inconsiderate community members have made it a habit to dump their waste in this space despite designated dumping sites in close proximity.
Rose Lenasia Parkrun thanked the following sponsors for their generous sponsorship towards the 1st Anniversary celebration: Pick ‘n Pay, Roger Chetty, Village Bakery, Hafsas House of Savouries, HRN, Roman's Pizza, Koogans Plastics, Krunch Snacks, Yunus Wadee, Tayyiba Ebrahim, Imraan Moosa, Pamitha and Yogesh Nagin , Imtiaz and Razia Sattar, Hema Daya, Ayesha Ebrahim, Anila Makkan, Rashika Makkan, Natasha Makkan, Bhavik Makkan, Nisha Makkan, Kanti Soma, Yasir Jada and Halima Ebrahim.
