Guru Jay Naidoo from Om Shri Kumaraya Namah Ashram-Mandir said: “Kavady begins with flag hoisting which reminds the community that the temple is observing the auspicious period of Thai Poosam Kavady. From the day of flag hoisting, devotees, temple congregants, community in vicinity of the temple actively are engaged in devotion to Lord Muruga by means of fast, abstinence of non-vegetarian foods, vices and comforts and many more, performing selfless service.”
He further explained that undertaking the fast creates the awareness and awakening of the spiritual energy within us and connects us to the Divine.
“Our lives during the fast is transformed and we earnestly pray that our lives be fulfilled and blessed with total devotion. The Kavady festival communicates to us that surrender to the Lord with all the trials and tribulations will strengthen our spiritual hearts and grant us peace, love, compassion, selflessness, patience, forgiveness, absence of anger.
