Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) were summoned to Takolia’s Farm on Nirvana Drive, Extension 9, Lenasia, on Friday, 3rd April 2020 to demolish several newly built shacks there.
They broke down 57 of these structures, said to be illegal, following up on a demolition there of 40 shacks done in January this year.
This latest set of incidents at Takolia’s Farm occurred in the middle of the lockdown period our country’s currently in.
JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said: “It is the second demolition of shacks that was at the same spot. Erection of a house or a structure on land which has not been hired or purchased is illegal.”
