It’s more than a month since our country has been suffering from the horrific virus called Coronavirus or Covid-19 pandemic which started in Wuhan, China, and spread across the globe like wildfire. Globally, countries were in level 5 of lockdown for about a month before our country’s lockdown was eased officially from 1st May 2020. We in South Africa are currently in level 4 of lockdown though people can go out of their homes and many able to return to work with a permit which states they are part of the essential workers list.
Essential workers nationally from medical, to supermarkets, butchers, bakeries, taxis/buses, police, army, security personnel, patrollers and many others had been and still are working around the clock to make sure the rest of the country is safe and taken care off. Despite the hike in numbers and deaths nationally, our essential workers are risking their lives daily to make sure the rest of the country are safe and taken care of in every way that is needed from food, basic necessities, medical treatment, pension collection or any other emergency that comes about.
A businesswoman, philanthropist and charity driven woman named Shireen Ebrahim, a resident of Lenasia has founded and initiated the Covid-19 Hero Awards project during the massive lockdown. Ebrahim, who gives back by doing a special project annually but the Covid-19 restriction did not stop her from initiating an amazing project of giving back to the community of South Africa where essential workers across the board are thanked for their amazing work that still is being continued during the lockdown. The true and real heroes will be thanked and appreciated for giving back during this covid-19 pandemic lockdown.
“The COVID-19 Hero Awards is dedicated to all those who have made a positive difference in the lives of others and continue to make that difference in serving mankind and putting their own lives at risk whilst sacrificing their family, time and efforts in the path of humanity,” said Ebrahim adding that It's an award to recognise those who put their hearts and passion in selflessly helping others during the Corona Virus pandemic experienced worldwide and also a tribute to those whom we lost.”
She further explained that the awards will cover Individuals, organisations, sponsors and those who contributed in a positive way in impacting others no matter how big or small.
Ebrahim excitedly ended by saying she request the public to nominate people and organizations who have made a difference as a Leader or as Team Player by being selfless, compassionate, caring and helpful towards others with the true Ubuntu spirit of making South Africa great again.
