The 2nd Annual Lenasia Charity Colour Run is occurring this Saturday (9th December), with the 'run' or walk commencing and ending at the Lenasia Soccer Stadium. Participants will get to traverse through numerous adjacent streets of the 'Township' area of Extension 1 such as Woodpecker, Sunbird, Albatross, Nightingale, Nirvana Drive and Hummingbird. The route is said to have been strategically chosen to have minimal impact on traffic congestion. Last year, many mentioned that the walk, held on a pleasant and warm summer evening, was serene, scenic and there was a great sense of camaraderie and kinship amongst all those doing it. It's hoped that this year's walk would be similar or even better.
The 5km walk or run will begin at 7:30pm but prior to it, from mid-day onwards, there will be numerous fun-filled activities for families to enjoy at the stadium. Such as, doing some shopping at the vast array of stalls, having lunch at the grounds, socialising with the many guests arriving for the walk, and having kids partake in the numerous fun activities and facilities present for them.
Organisers of this eagerly-anticipated night walk told Lenasia Times that this year's Lenasia Charity Colour Run will have two beneficiaries, namely: The Maleeha Laylaa Centre for Special Needs, and the FMYO (Fordsburg Muslim Youth Organisation) whose medical equipment gets distributed freely by the Charity Run's members to any persons in need of such in Lenasia and surrounds.
Additionally, the Lenasia Charity Colour Run's organisers pledge R25 000 of this event's proceeds will go to the people of Palestine. They say that those who want to attend the walk with Palestine flags, as a show of support, are most welcome to do so.
Throughout the day, live entertainment will be provided at the stadium, featuring an array of popular and talented local artists.
Organisers emphasised that this is a fun, family-orientated event for all to enjoy and security will be overwhelmingly present across the walk's entire route as well as at the stadium, along with adequate lighting and numerous points-men. They are thankful to all security companies assisting, as well as volunteers and sponsors.
The 2023 Lenasia Charity Colour Run was initially scheduled for Saturday, 2nd December but was postponed to this Saturday instead.
Though majority of tickets have already been sold, if you are keen to participate in this year's walk, you can still purchase a ticket, which costs R100 and includes a special t-shirt and goodie bag, by visiting 188 Rose Avenue, Lenasia or phoning organiser Mohamed Bismillah on 079-559-0617.
