Police have opened an inquest following the discovery of an unidentified woman’s body in a dam in Moroka, Soweto.
The body was discovered at approximately 5pm on Sunday, 20 September. The woman, believed to be in her twenties, was found wrapped in a duvet.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unknown at this stage.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown at this stage,” said Nevhuhulwi.
Police are continuing with their investigation to establish the identity of the woman and determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
Authorities are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
Information can be provided to the nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Members of the public can also submit information anonymously through the MySAPS App.
The investigation remains ongoing.
