Less than two days after another tragic incident made headlines in Thembisa, police are investigating the murder of a 23-year-old woman who was allegedly shot and robbed while walking to work on Monday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:45am on 28 September 2026 in Temong, along Mapungubwe Street, where a 23-year-old woman was reportedly attacked while on her way to work.
According to Gauteng SAPS Provincial Spokesperson, Brigadier Brenda Muridili, the victim was shot and killed during what is believed to have been a robbery.
"The woman was reportedly on her way to work when she was shot and killed during an alleged robbery. Her belongings were taken during the incident," said Muridili.
Police have confirmed that the deceased has been identified, but her family had not yet been formally notified at the time of the statement.
Authorities are investigating cases of murder and robbery and have launched a search for those responsible. No arrests have been made thus far, with investigators continuing to follow up on available leads.
Muridili further stated that preliminary investigations have found no evidence linking the incident to the recent cases involving the discovery of women's bodies in parts of Ekurhuleni.
The latest killing has heightened concerns over violent crime in the area, particularly crimes targeting commuters during the early morning hours.
Police are urging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact their nearest police station, call Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or submit anonymous tip-offs through the MySAPS App.
Investigations are ongoing.
