A suspect found in possession of an item belonging to murdered runner Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on today, 12 October 2026 following his arrest by police.
According to SAPS National Spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the suspect is likely to face a charge of possession of stolen property. No murder charge has been brought against the suspect at this stage, while investigations continue.
Moselakgomo, 38, captured national attention after she was reported missing when she failed to return home after going for an afternoon run from her Rhodesfield home in Kempton Park on 10 September 2026.
Her disappearance sparked widespread concern and an extensive search effort involving police, family members and the broader running community.
Tragically, her body was discovered two days later in Rhodesfield, bringing a devastating end to the search and prompting renewed concerns over the safety of women in public spaces.
Brigadier Mathe said the arrest forms part of the ongoing investigation into Moselakgomo's murder. While the suspect has not been directly linked to the killing, police are continuing to pursue all leads as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities seek justice for Moselakgomo and answers for her family and community.
