A 34-year-old father from Eldorado Park has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder and rape of his four-year-old daughter, following a case that shocked the community and renewed calls for stronger protection of vulnerable children.
The Gauteng Division of the High Court in Johannesburg handed down the sentence on 27 October 2026 after the accused pleaded guilty to crimes committed against his two young children.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the father admitted to repeatedly assaulting his daughter by hitting and biting her before drowning her in a bath, causing her death. He also admitted to raping the child on 6 August 2025.
In a separate incident on 13 March 2025, he assaulted his three-year-old son.
State Advocate Charlene Mack accepted the guilty plea on behalf of the State in terms of Section 112(2) of the Criminal Procedure Act.
The court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment for murder and a further life sentence for the two counts of rape. He also received four years' imprisonment for two counts of child abuse and six months for assault and resisting arrest.
During sentencing, the court found that the offences were serious and that the guilty plea did not necessarily demonstrate genuine remorse. His explanation that drugs had contributed to his actions was also rejected as unconvincing.
The court considered the severity of the attacks on the children and found that the accused posed a danger to society.
The case follows the death of four-year-old Lukeithon Keiwiet, affectionately known as Nikita, whose passing in August 2025 devastated the Eldorado Park community.
Nikita died at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital on 8 August 2025 after suffering severe injuries. Her death sparked widespread public outrage, with residents and community leaders demanding justice and stronger measures to protect children from abuse.
Her funeral, was held at Nasrec Cemetery on 19 August 2025, brought together family members, residents, bikers, schoolchildren and public representatives to mourn her death and honour her memory.
Meanwhile, the child's 32-year-old mother will stand trial separately after pleading not guilty to charges including murder, child abuse and failure to report sexual offences. The State alleges that she was aware of injuries sustained by the child but failed to report them to the relevant authorities. Her case has been postponed to February 2027.
The identities of both accused remain withheld to protect the surviving child.
The state welcomed the sentence, reiterating its commitment to prosecuting perpetrators of violence and abuse against children.
