A 14-year-old girl reported to her mother on 27 November 2024 that she had missed her menstrual cycle after allegedly being raped by her stepfather.

According to SAPS Ekurhuleni District spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the incidents occurred on two separate occasions in November 2024 while the child's mother had left her in the care of her stepfather, Batho Batho Seisa (40), while attending a clinic for medical treatment.

"The incidents occurred twice on two different occasions while the mother left the child with her stepfather, Batho Batho Seisa (40), while she visited the clinic for medical attention in November 2024," said Captain Sekgobela.

Captain Sekgobela added that the mother immediately informed her in-laws, who acted swiftly by confronting the accused. He subsequently fled the family home.

"The matter was reported to Katlehong Police, where a rape case was registered. Detective Sergeant Solomon Mashego of the Katlehong Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) took over the investigation," she said.

Following an intensive investigation, the accused was traced and arrested. Bail was successfully opposed, and he remained in custody throughout the court proceedings.

On 2 September 2026, the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court found Seisa guilty on two counts of rape and sentenced him to two life terms of imprisonment.

Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole commended Detective Sergeant Mashego for his dedication and professionalism in the investigation.

She praised his commitment to ensuring that vulnerable children receive the justice and protection they deserve, while helping bring closure to victims and their families.

The sentence sends a strong message that crimes against children will be met with the full might of the law, reaffirming the commitment of the South African Police Service to protecting the most vulnerable members of society.
