Five suspects are expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court following the discovery of a clandestine drug manufacturing laboratory valued at an estimated R100 million on a farm in Hekpoort, near Krugersdorp.

The suspects, all South African nationals, were arrested during a multi-disciplinary operation led by the South African Narcotics Bureau of the Hawks in collaboration with SAPS Head Office Crime Intelligence, the Special Task Force and the West Rand K-9 Unit.

Authorities uncovered quantities of Mandrax and ecstasy tablets at the premises, which investigators believe was being used as an illegal drug manufacturing facility.

The five individuals found on the property are expected to face charges relating to the manufacture and dealing of illegal drugs.

According to Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale, the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat organised crime and disrupt the production and distribution of illicit narcotics across the country. The investigation remains ongoing.
